About The Bunkhouse
The Bunkhouse is an independent, multi-award-winning music venue and creative hub based in the heart of Swansea city centre. Since opening in 2017, we’ve become a vital part of the South Wales music scene, hosting over 240 shows a year in the venue alone, plus countless events across South Wales and beyond. The venue is known for championing local talent, hosting unforgettable live shows, and creating a space where music and community thrive.

What started as a grassroots passion project has grown into a respected and much-loved venue with a strong DIY ethos, a commitment to inclusivity, and a drive to support the creative industries in every form.

In 2024, The Bunkhouse became the first venue in Wales to secure permanent protected cultural status through the Music Venue Trust’s #OwnOurVenues initiative. Backed by our local community and the wider live music sector, this achievement ensures that The Bunkhouse remains independent, safeguarded, and rooted in grassroots values for years to come.

Since opening, we’ve supported emerging artists, touring bands, DJs, creatives, and communities, helping them connect through performance, education, and shared experience. What started as a grassroots passion project has grown into one of Wales’ most trusted and active creative spaces, built from the ground up with purpose, passion, and DIY spirit.

A Space for Artists and Audiences Alike
The Bunkhouse was built with one aim, to be more than just a venue. We wanted to create a home for artists and gig-goers alike. A space where people could gather, perform, connect, and grow.

We operate across two distinct stages:
-
The Kingsway Main Stage – Our larger performance space, hosting everything from high-energy touring bands and club nights to packed-out local shows.
-
The Park Street Bar Stage – A more intimate setting for acoustic performances, spoken word, comedy, jazz nights, and afterparties. A space that brings artists and audiences closer together.

We’ve grown into a trusted name in grassroots culture, known for delivering quality, care, and consistency. Whether it’s your first show or your fiftieth, we aim to make every performance feel special.

A Year-Round Creative Hub
The Bunkhouse is more than just what happens on stage. We run a wide range of year-round projects, workshops, and community programmes aimed at making the creative industries more accessible to everyone, especially those from underrepresented or underserved backgrounds.

We lead and support work in:
-
Music education and industry training
-
Project and event management
-
Tour and stage management
-
Live event production and logistics
-
Artist development and mentoring

We deliver free-to-access courses and practical skills sessions, helping the next generation of performers, promoters, and behind-the-scenes creatives take their first steps into the industry. Our team comes from real-world experience, grounded in independent music, DIY culture, and grassroots organising and we bring that energy into everything we do.

What We Stand For
At the heart of The Bunkhouse is a commitment to:
-
Accessibility – keeping our shows, education, and opportunities open to as many people as possible.
-
Inclusivity – creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone, regardless of background, identity, or experience.
-
Community – supporting the people who support us, and building something meaningful together.
-
Sustainability – making conscious choices in how we work, grow, and contribute to a healthier creative ecosystem.

We believe that live music and creativity should be for everyone, not just those with connections, funding, or privilege. Everything we do is designed to help break down barriers, support local talent, and build a stronger, more vibrant cultural scene in Wales and beyond.

Whether you’re here for a gig, a course, a conversation, or a chance to be heard, you’re part of The Bunkhouse story.
